We are fortunate to have had several very talented Directors & Accompanists within our organization since 1991.
Vincent Trovato works at Muhlenberg College as a collaborative pianist, accompanying faculty and student recitals and providing accompaniment for the vocal ensembles. He also coaches Musica da Camera, a student Chamber Music ensemble and teaches piano, working closely with his students, encouraging them to explore the different styles of music that interest them.
In addition to his work with Summer Harmony, he is currently the director of the Lehigh Valley Meistersingers and also the associate conductor of the Camerata Singers.
Vincent has musically directed and conducted over 30 theatre productions for the Muhlenberg Summer Theatre, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, DeSales University and Civic Theatre. At Muhlenberg he has also provided new arrangements/orchestrations for productions of “The Beggar’s Opera”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, “Pippin” and “An American Tragedy”, a new Charles Strouse musical which had its premiere at Muhlenberg. He has had extensive theatrical experience, the highlights of which include a European tour of “My Fair Lady” with Richard Chamberlain, arranging and accompanying “Free Fall”, a one-woman show starring Sandy Duncan, and contributing arrangements and accompaniment for a Noel Coward birthday celebration at Carnegie Hall. In 2012 Vincent made his debut with the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, conducting a program of Broadway and Operetta selections.
Vinny started with Summer Harmony in 2016. We are excited to have him share his time and talent as our newest director.
Larry Benner-Assistant Director
Larry Benner was born and raised in Richlandtown, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Quakertown Community Senior High School Class of 1965. A music lover all his life, he began piano lessons at age 6 and organ lessons at age 13. Larry was a member and past president of his high school chorus and sang in other related ensembles during his school career. Upon graduation, he joined the Zion Choral Society, a sacred music chorus based in Quakertown, and continued to sing for more than thirty years. An Army veteran, Larry entered the United States Army in 1966 and served as a chaplain’s assistant for three chaplains in the U. S. Army Hospital at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Upon his departure from active duty, Larry was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for outstanding service. Curious to what singing with an all-male chorus would be like, Larry joined Summer Harmony Men’s Chorus of the Lehigh Valley in its inception year—1991. In 2004 he became a member of the newly formed Allentown Symphony Chorus.
Larry Benner is organist and choir director of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Richlandtown and has served in that capacity since 1966. Now retired from the field of public education after more than forty-five year, Larry worked for the Pennridge School District, the Upper Bucks County Area Vocational-Technical School and the Quakertown Community School District during his employment years.
Michael Krentz , organist for Christ Lutheran Church in Allentown will be our accompanist for the 2019 season. He recently performed as a guest artist at our 2017 end of Summer Performance. Michael is a wonderful musician and will be an invaluable asset to our community.
