The Premier Men’s Chorus of the Lehigh Valley
Brothers, Sing On! - About Summer Harmony
Since 1991, men across the Lehigh Valley have gathered in the early days of May to begin rehearsals for a yearly concert, traditionally presented at the conclusion of summer in August. The first on-stage concert was performed at the Scottish Rite Cathedral on Hamilton Street in Allentown with about 100 men singing all the music presented from memory that evening. The first tune rehearsed and the first presented that evening was “Brothers, Sing On” and we’re happy to continue that tradition today with regular singing of the piece.
Summer Harmony was a hit! Membership swelled to as many as 120 men singing in the chorus in the early days, many from the Allen Chorale and the SPEBSQSA chorus. To this day, we boast a wide variety of interesting professions and vocations including physicians, dentists, educators, accountants, bankers, technicians, salesmen and, to top the list, engineers. Additionally, several members are either actively engaged in the music profession or retired from it. However diverse our background may be, loyalty to the choir has never waivered. A dozen Summer Harmony members have been with the choir for over 20 years as the average membership length is 10 years across the entire membership.
But Summer Harmony continues to grow and welcome to new members each year! Weekly rehearsals, currently held at First Presbyterian Church Allentown, begin in May and run through the annual concert in August. Regardless of your musical background, you are invited to sing with us! For more information, contact us today!
The chorus may have seemed not to have changed much from those early days, yet we know that nothing really stays the same. However, there is one constant among us that will never change… we simply love to sing!
